Description:
Explore practical strategies and knowledge to effectively communicate with individuals who have hearing loss. Topics include communication while wearing masks, understanding sensorineural hearing loss and its impact on speech, and implementing accommodations, technologies, and strategies. This course equips students with essential skills to foster effective interactions and overcome communication barriers in diverse contexts.

Objectives:

  1. Develop effective communication techniques specifically tailored to overcome challenges faced by individuals with hearing loss while wearing masks.
  2. Gain a comprehensive understanding of sensorineural hearing loss and its impact on speech, including the changes in perception and comprehension.
  3. Explore a range of accommodations, technologies, and strategies available to support individuals with hearing loss, promoting inclusive communication and addressing their unique needs.

Duration: 30 minutes


Content Knowledge Level:

  • Novice: Limited knowledge or experience in the subject matter.
  • Beginner: Basic understanding and familiarity with the foundational concepts.

Target Audience:

  • Professional Studies (PS): Content directly applicable or impactful to healthcare professionals, interpreters, and transliterators.
  • General Studies (GS): Topics that broaden the general or global knowledge base of healthcare professionals, interpreters, and transliterators.
